Something else than usual hospital nursing care: An ethnographic study of nurse case managers’ everyday practices

Support interventions, such as nurse case managers, has been developed in response to the inequality health and a growing population with multi-morbidity. The aim of present study was explore everyday practices managers at Danish university hospital. An ethnographic approach constructionist perspective applied. Data generation entailed participant observation one group interviews all region ( n = 4). data were analysed using thematic analysis. characterised by providing something else than usual hospital nursing care continuously establishing maintaining relationships their patients. They emphasised patient's psychosocial needs biomedical context accompanied patients across different healthcare settings. managers’ resonate key values nursing. These are under pressure dominated technical rationality efficiency leading increased health. Further exploration potential benefits for multi-morbidity co-existing social issues is needed. There need continued critical debate about conditions caring patients’ needs. implications continuing neglect related further increasing impeding equal access services.
